Abstract The application of precision nutrition targeted at peri- and postmenopausal women is considered a highly interesting field for generating knowledge about the impact of nutrition on inherent alterations in the reproductive ageing process. The design of innovative nutritional interventions and the development of functional foods or nutraceuticals within this framework provide an opportunity that, for demographic reasons, should enable the adoption of preventive nutritional habits during pre-fertility-decline stages (perimenopause), and corrective measures for the risk factors present in periand postmenopause, improving women’s well-being and health over time. Therefore, research in this field should employ a combined use of omics technologies, computational tools and artificial intelligence to provide precise automated recommendations for metabotype-based groups – groups of individuals with similar metabolisms. This requires the integration of phenotypic data obtained by application of metabolomics and metagenomics, and the use of classic health biomarkers, genetic and epigenetic profiles, dietary habits and records, and lifestyles.
