Abstract

Implantation factors of Catalan terminology: Loanwords

This paper presents a terminology implantation analysis with the aim to find some  of the causes explaining the success or failure of terms in real language use. We start from the premise that there are factors, which influence terminology implantation in a positive or negative way. We establish a specific methodology in order to obtain quantitative and qualitative data for research on implantation factors. In this paper we study one of these factors related to linguistic aspects: formal and semantic proximity to the original term. The results obtained provide empirical data confirming this aspect, widely discussed in the literature, as a real implantation factor, although it is not the only one.

Amor Montané March, Universitat Pompeu Fabra

M. Amor Montané March és doctora en Ciències del Llenguatge i Lingüística Aplicada (2012) i llicenciada en Traducció i Interpretació (2004) per la Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). Actualment és membre del grup de recerca IULATERM (lèxic, terminologia i discurs especialitzat) de l'Institut de Lingüística Aplicada (IULA), professora del Màster online en Terminologia (IULA) i investigadora postdoctoral a la Universitat Nacional d'Educació a Distància (UNED). Les seves línies d'interès principals són la terminologia i la neologia. Administra eines de gestió de corpus i terminologia, col·labora en projectes de gestió terminològica i ha impartit classes de terminologia, llengua catalana, escriptura acadèmica, lingüística de corpus i informàtica com a professora associada de la UPF.
