Abstract

In the study of neologisms and, particularly, of the communicative functions they accomplish we can see an interrelation between this factor and the word formation process by which they have been created. In this sense, we verify that depending on the motivation of the neologism and the concept to which it refers some mechanisms are prioritised. In order to define the function of neologisms, we use a methodology based on prototypic values.
