Abstract All through the 19th century an important food industry developed in the Eixample district of Barcelona. This paper analyses in detail three of these companies: two sugar refineries and one factory producing soup pasta. They are Refinería Barcelonesa de Azúcar (1880-1899), Refinería de San Luis (1889-1940) and Pastas Alimenticias Ramón Flo, the producer of El Pavo cannelloni, which was founded at the beginning of the 20th century and became an important reference in the food sector.Keywords: Sugar, soup, noodles, industry, Barcelona.
