Terminología jurídica y bilingüismo en la nueva Ley civil vasca Authors Andrés M. Urrutia Badiola Universidad de Deusto/Euskaltzaindia Keywords: bilingualism, law terminology in Basque language, terminological equivalence, Basque Civil Law, translation Abstract Law terminology and bilingualism in the new Basque Civil Act The new Basque Civil Act published in Act 5/2015 has underlined the cultural and linguistic differences between the law terms used in both Basque Civil Law and Spanish Civil Law. The search for equivalences between the Basque language and the Spanish language must include the necessary distinction between the terms used in one or the other language. The main reason for this is the strong cultural background involved in each law system. This paper focuses on the research of these equivalences, both from the linguistic and legal points of view. For these purposes, it contains an analysis of several terms, which shows the significance of the terminological work in the field of the new Basque Civil Act.
