Independent and non-discriminatory editorial decisions

Editorial decisions should not be conditioned by the source of the original received manuscripts, including the nationality, ethnic origin, political ideology or religious belief of the authors. The decisions to edit or publish cannot be determined by the government policies or agencies external to the journal, according to the Publication Ethics Committee (COPE).

Responsibilities of the authors

By submitting their articles to TERMINÀLIA, the authors are responsible for the originality of the manuscript, the veracity of the authorship and the validity of their institutional or professional affiliation. These responsibilities are included in the Author Guidelines and in the process of original submission.

Originality of the published articles

The manuscripts submitted and published in TERMINÀLIA, in any of the journal's sections, must be original, and they cannot have been previously published elsewhere. The authors are committed to ensuring the originality of their work in the process of submission, and the TERMINÀLIA editors verify it through external reviews and by applying the manuscripts to the anti-plagiarism system of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. This matter is included in the Author Guidelines and in the process of original submission.

Authorship of the works and institutiona affiliation

All those designated as authors must have actively contributed to the conducted research reflected in the manuscript and are jointly responsible for the drafted article. if authors take responsibility only for certain parts of the research, this should be specified in the publication. The order of signature can respond to the signature criteria of the authors' institutions.

The authors are responsible for the validity of the institutional or professional ascriptions declared in the manuscript on the date of submission. TERMINÀLIA editors verify, throughout the editorial process, the existence of the institutions or companies introduced and the validity of the authors' affiliation relationships.

This matter is included in the Author Guidelines and in the process of original submission.

Protection of intellectual property

The authors of TERMINÀLIA have the right to protect and preserve the intellectual property of their works.

The authors are responsible to obtain permissions to reproduce all graphic materials used in the articles from the copyright holder. Regarding the graphic material incorporated in the layout of the journal that does not come from the authors themselves, the editors of TERMINÀLIA take care to obtain the corresponding permission to reproduce and to identify its authorship and ownership.

The contents published in the journal are subject to a Creative Commons copyright license -except as otherwise indicated in the text or in the graphic material-called Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Spain (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 ES). The full version of the license conditions is available at: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/es/deed.en. Thus, the general public is authorized to reproduce, distribute and communicate the work if its authorship and the entity that publishes it are acknowledged, and no commercial use or any derivative work is made.

Selection of external reviewers

TERMINÀLIA editors select two skilled reviewers for the evaluation of each article in an impartial and professional manner, in order to guarantee fair evaluations to the authors. The editors in selecting reviewers adhere to the following criteria:

  • Who are recognized experts in the disciplinary/professional field or in any of the topics in the manuscript.
  • Who are doctors and active professionals.
  • Who are not parts of the Editorial Board of the journal.
  • Who are affiliated to institutions or companies other than those of the authors and different from each other.
  • That there is gender parity in the selection of the two reviewers of the article, or alternatively in the set of reviewers of the articles of the same number.

By virtue of the desire for transparency, the names of the reviewers from the previous year are published within the editorial policy section of the journal. The members of the Scientific Council of the journal can act as reviewers, if they meet the required criteria.

Within the journal system, the reviewers' performance is evaluated for each single paper. These evaluations, based on the quality of the comments and in accordance with the evaluation timetable, are collected confidentially from the reviewers database of the journal for future selections.

TERMINÀLIA editors acknowledge the work of the reviewers by offering review certificates and by the inclusion of their names in the periodic renewals of the Scientific Council or in external databases, such as Publons of the Web of Science, if the reviewers give their consent.

Conflicts of interest

Editors and reviewers are responsible to disclose the conflicts of interest (if there is any) that may influence their ability to review original text with adequate objectivity. TERMINÀLIA reviewers declare the lack of conflicts through the evaluation form or, alternatively, in the acceptance email of the evaluation task. TERMINÀLIA editors who manifest conflicts of interest are replaced in the affected task by another member of the Editorial Board.
The authors have the right to disclose to the TERMINÀLIA editors any conflict of interest with any expert, who may be selected as an external reviewer. The authors are informed about this right in Author Guidelines.

External review process

The selected reviewers who have accepted the evaluation task receive the anonymous original manuscript and an evaluation form. They have one month for evaluation. They can accept or reject the original manuscript or might request some modifications to be incorporated for their improvement. Reviewer comments can be sent to authors or to editors. The authors receive the comments that the reviewers direct them to improve the text or to justify their decision, in a constructive spirit and in a respectful manner.

The TERMINÀLIA editors make the final decision based on the consensus of the evaluations of the two external reviewers. If the two reviewers have contradictory view, a third external reviewer will be selected.

TERMINÀLIA editors are responsible for guaranteeing objective, impartial and adequate evaluations. The editors review the work of the evaluators and control its quality.

The members of the Editorial Board of TERMINÀLIA cannot act as external reviewers. When the members of the Editorial Board sign a contribution as authors, they do so under the affiliation of "Editorial Board", and they cannot be evaluated by themselves or by other members of the Board.

Every two years, the editors of TERMINÀLIA assess and revise the review practices of the numbers published interacting with the Scientific Council, the Advisory Council and the Board of the Society of Catalan Terminology (SCATERM), in case the review process could be improved.

Confidentiality of reviewers and the editorial team

Authors have the right to expect that reviewers and other members of the editorial team, who come into contact with the manuscript before publication will not use the content or reproduce it, in full or in part, until it is published.

TERMINÀLIA editors put in place the appropriate measures so that each one's work can be processed with the utmost confidentiality during the entire editorial phase.

Appeal against the editorial decision

Authors have the right to appeal against editorial decisions that concern them. This right is informed within the publishing policies and, in case of rejection of the original work, it is also reminded while the decision is communicated to the authors.

The appeal must be addressed to the publishing entity, the Society of Catalan Terminology (SCATERM), a subsidiary of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, through the communication channel provided on the journal's platform (Complaints).

If a complaint cannot be resolved internally, it is expected that the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, at the proposal of the Society of Catalan Terminology (SCATERM), appoint an independent defender.

Promotion of good practices

The TERMINÀLIA editorial team promotes good practices in the research activities underlying the articles, and in the publication process itself.

  • If the manuscripts include processed personal data (experimentation, surveys, etc.), the authors should indicate in the manuscript that they have obtained the written consent from those affected or that the experimentation has been approved by an ethical committee. The editors reserve the right to reject a paper if adequate procedures have not been followed upon the rights of the participants or subjects of the research.
  • The editors reserve the right to reject images and expressions that may offend individuals, social groups, linguistic communities or ethnic groups, or that may be the cause of crime.
  • To promote the visibility of women researchers, the bibliography included in each article is requested to state the full name of the cited authors, as an expansion of the standard APA format.
  • Reviewers and editors must ensure that authors adequately cite the sources and reference works consulted, and that they explicitly acknowledge the intellectual property and reproduction rights of third-party images.
  • The editors are committed to publish a corrigendum when errors are detected in the texts after the layout and publication.

Prevention of bad research practices

The TERMINÀLIA editorial team adopts measures to detect possible bad practices in the research activities underlying the articles and, in the publication, process itself.

  • If editors suspect misconduct in the research underlying an article (for example, [deceptive] manipulation of data or images, data falsification, or plagiarism), they should contact the associated authors and request all necessary information.
  • If reviewers have indications of inappropriate research conduct (for example, manipulation of data or images, data falsification or plagiarism) they are obliged to communicate it to the editors and to reflect it clearly in the review comments addressed to the authors.
  • The editors reserve the right to reject a work, in case of improper conduct detected, if the explanations of the authors are not sufficient or if the unethical behaviors are confirmed.
  • If a bad research practice is confirmed after the publication of an article, the editors are obliged to notify the readers, through the Corrigendum, and to remove the affected text from the journal's platform.
  • If a bad research practice is confirmed, the editors can impose sanctions on the affected authors for a period.
  • In general, in order to know how to respond to unwanted situations, TERMINÀLIA editors follow and make available to external reviewers the flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethic (COPE)

Interaction between publishers and readers

The editors of TERMINÀLIA have the responsibility of guaranteeing the quality of the published material and for this aim they invite the journal's readers to notify terminalia@iec.cat of any error or sign of bad conduct they detect.

The editors commit to publish the Corrigendum on errors not related to bad conducts, as soon as possible, and at the latest within one year after the publication of the affected issue. In the case of confirmed bad practices, the corresponding Corrigendum will be published when the verification process has finished. Corrigenda are published in the next available issue and in the digital version of the affected issue as well.

TERMINÀLIA editors are sensitive to the need of having an open communication channel with readers, to encourage academic debate and to get their opinion on ways to improve the journal. Readers can express their opinions to the email terminalia@iec.cat, an account managed by the Editorial Board of the journal, or to scamerm@iec.cat, an institutional account of the Board of the Society of Catalan Terminology.

Responsible and sustainable publication

The Terminàlia editors follow the recommendations of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, the Society of Catalan Terminology, the Committee on Publication Ethic (COPE) and the Advisory Council of the journal.

TERMINÀLIA editors are committed to good practices in research and publication activities; and observe to detect bad conducts, and denounce them, if appropriate.

The editors of TERMINÀLIA defend the sustainability of the publications and the defense of the environment. For this reason, the printed version has been reduced to a minimum number of copies to meet the requests of libraries and exchange and as a protocol action with the authors and collaborators of each number. In this case, recycled paper is used whenever possible.

The authors, the reviewers, the members of the Editorial Board, the Scientific Council and the Advisory Council and the collaborators of TERMINÀLIA do not receive any remuneration, in money or in kind, from the journal or from the publishing entities.

TERMINÀLIA editors are responsible for setting up regular interaction systems with readers, authors, reviewers, the Scientific Council, the Advisory Council, the Society of Catalan Terminology and the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, to identify and discuss ideas for improving the quality of the journal.

Editorial independence

The Catalan Society of Terminology (SCATERM), an affiliated of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, is the sponsoring entity of the journal TERMINÀLIA. The SCATERM's Board of Directors works in coordination with the Editorial Board of TERMINÀLIA to guarantee the journal financing, agree on appropriate editorial policies and promote its dissemination. SCATERM's Board of Directors always considers a position as a member for the journal.

The Institut d'Estudis Catalans is, ultimately, the institution responsible for the publication of the TERMINÀLIA journal and all the journals edited by its sections and affiliated societies, in general editorial policy, legal and ethical aspects, archiving, linguistic revision and technical support.

The Catalan Society of Terminology and the Institut d'Estudis Catalans respect editorial independence and do not interfere in the editorial decisions of TERMINÀLIA.

Transparency

As provided in the Author Guidelines, TERMINÀLIA editors request authors to include this information, if applicable, clearly and precisely, in the first note of the manuscript.
