Abstract

The influence of the Catalan language on the Maltese language has hardly been researched, despite the fact that the island was under Catalan sovereignty for nearly two centuries. Out of the 268 years that the island was governed by the Knights of Malta, 87 were under the leadership of Catalan-speaking grandmasters. A preliminary study investigates which of the 167 Maltese names of birds collected in the book Where to Watch Birds and other Wildlife in Malta have a highly probable Catalan origin

Pere Alzina i Bilbeny

Consultor i comunicador ambiental. Llicenciat en Biologia en l'especialitat de Zoologia i màster en Enginyeria i Gestió Ambiental. Al llarg de la seva carrera professional ha treballat en el camp de
l'educació ambiental al Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes-Sant Maurici, al Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Empordà i al Parc Natural del Corredor i del Montnegre fins que va entrar de ple en el món de la consultoria ambiental tècnica. Després d'uns quants anys d'estar redactant estudis, auditories i projectes en dues consultores ambientals, ara treballa com a consultor per compte propi. També és assessor acreditat i verificador de camps de golf per a la Golf Environment Organization. Treballa tant per a l'empresa privada com per a l'administració pública, a dins i fora del país.
