Abstract

Knowledge of trades from extra-biblical sources allows insights into daily life in the ancient Near East. The Bible, too, provides knowledge about certain jobs or positions connected to royalty. The trades of sōfēr and mazkīr have always been interrelated due to their biblical proximity; to verify their possible Historical proximity, however, they ought to be considered in the context of other powerful administrations in the same region at the time.
