Hayyim Nahman Bialik’s Safíaḥ. Introduction and translation into Catalan from Hebrew Authors Joan Ferrer Universitat de Girona Keywords: modern Hebrew literature, Hayyim Nahman Bialik, Safíaḥ, intertextuality Abstract This paper presents the translation into Catalan of Safíaḥ, a piece of prose by the great poet Hayyim Nahman Bialik, who mainly wrote in Hebrew. The translation is preceded by an introduction that indicates the tale’s essential poetic and linguistic elements. Safíaḥ is a surprising work of exceptional literary quality, one that can be considered a true prose poem. It could be thought of as the expression in prose of the ars poetica of Bialik, a poet of impetuous power whose ability to convey the Jewish spirit and condition was unmatched among his contemporaries. The Catalan translation of Safíaḥ aims to reproduce the prodigious metaphorical force of the original Hebrew text. Keywords: modern Hebrew literature, Hayyim Nahman Bialik, Safíaḥ, intertextuality Downloads Download data is not yet available.
