Abstract

In this paper we address the concept of rareness in relation to words,  taking into account the speaker’s perception and based on surveys carried out with Catalan speakers having different background knowledge on linguistics. The final objective is to contribute to a long-standing discussion about the notion of neologism as well as a more recent debate on the concept of neologicity.
