New Hebrew epitaph found reused in Tortosa’s city walls Authors Jordi Casanovas i Miró Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya Keywords: Hebrew epigraphy, epitaph, reuse, city walls, Tortosa, 1368 Abstract Prompted by the chance discovery of a new fragment of an inscription reused in Tortosa’s 14th-century city walls, this article updates the inventory of the city’s Hebraic epigraphs. It thus modestly contributes to furthering our knowledge of such funerary texts, both where their philological and archaeological aspects are concerned and in terms of the circumstances of their subsequent reuse, which follows patterns with which we are increasingly familiar thanks to the now more frequent discovery of new specimens.
