Caracterització ampelogràfica i molecular de la varietat garnatxa roja Authors Lluís Giralt i Vidal Anna Puig Carme Domingo i Gustems Abstract La varietat garnatxa roja es cultiva de manera tradicional a Catalunya, especialment a l'Alt Empordà, amb un total de 61 ha, el 98 % de les quals es troben a la DO Empordà. La seva caracterització s'inicia amb una descripció i discussió ampelogràfiques. El factor que diferencia la garnatxa roja de les altres garnatxes és el color de l'epidermis de la baia. Un dels objectius del treball que es presenta és realitzar una descripció d'aquesta característica per observar si existeix diferència clara entre el color roig i el gris. Es fa també una caracterització molecular de la varietat, mitjançant tècniques moleculars basades en l'anàlisi de regions de DNA. Els resultats confirmen la garnatxa com un grup de varietats amb una base comuna, i diferenciades per caràcters morfològics provocats per mutacions somàtiques: petits canvis en regions molt concretes del DNA. Aquestes varietats s'han conservat gràcies a la multiplicació vegetativa del cultiu i a l'interès que aquesta variació de caràcters ha tingut en els viticultors, com una part més del procés històric de selecció que ha donat lloc a la gran diversitat genètica de la viticultura.
