Abstract

As of the second half of the 13th century, the town of Cardona was home to a small Jewish community, which existed throughout the following century under the rule and protection of its jurisdictional lords, the Viscounts and Counts of Cardona. This article challenges the location proposed for the call, or Jewish quarter, by 19th-century chroniclers of the Romantic tradition, suggesting a new location in the area of la Serra and the tower known as la Fortesa, which was the property of the lords of the town. Additionally, we situate the call’s cemetery in the Collars area, based on the evolution of the community over the 14th and 15th centuries and on data from local notarial documentation, including the Libri Iudeorum.
