The Abnuba lineage, Equidae traders of the Jewish aljama of Barbastro (1390-1415). A prosopographical study Authors Miguel ?ngel Motis Dolader Universidad San Jorge de Zaragoza Keywords: lineages, Abnuba, Equidae traders, Jewish quarter, aljama, Barbastro Abstract This article provides a biographical sketch of the Abnuba lineage – chiefly the patriarch, Menahem, and his sons Abraham and Simuel – from the city of Barbastro (Huesca). Many of the Abnubas traded in Equidae, vital not only for the transport of people and goods but also as a means of traction in agricultural work. Drawing on notarial protocols, the article analyses the Abnubas’ economic activity, channelled through a joint trading company that operated in Somontano de Barbastro and Somontano de Huesca. It also reflects on their habitus and mentality, given that, as negotiatores, their family and blood ties ran parallel to their careers. Keywords: lineages, Abnuba, Equidae traders, Jewish quarter, aljama, Barbastro Downloads Download data is not yet available.
