Abstract

The imaginary models the way we perceive the world, and also shapes our acts and actions. The images are the substratum over which the imaginary is based, and since visual products overwhelm present it affects severely our daily lives. This article examines the impact that the imaginary has in the touristic ambit and in the weight that it has in the decisions making processes. Tourists are guided by assumptions and preconceived ideas lying on the imaginary. Finally, Formentera was chosen as an example to approach to the imaginary formation of a place to try to understand the origin of the stimuli that make it work.
