Percepció i anàlisi de la seguretat alimentària en persones immigrades a Catalunya

Abstract

We present the results of an enquiry required by the Agència Catalana de la Seguretat Alimentària (Catalan Agency of Food Security). A qualitative approach has beenmade, with interviews of people responsible for the domestic needs of ninety homes from different origins (Africa, Asia and South America) in equal proportion. There is an important heterogeneity due to the significant differences between the alimentary culture in each original area, but also due to themigration circumstances and the social demographic profile of each individual. The study focuses in the culinary competencies at home, the knowledge of food and it security, preservation principles, purchase behaviour and domestic hygiene. The enquiry recommends increasing the newcomer’s awareness on good practices in the consumption of local food.
