Abstract Based on the research data gathered in the project promoted by MUHBA (Museum of the History of Barcelona) and AHCB (Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona) on the food supply of Barcelona, this paper identifies territorially some of the most significant evidence of this activity in the medieval and modern centuries, when it was a municipal responsibility and when urban growth was limited by the supply capacity. It also sheds light on the transformation of the system from the 19th century, with free trade, the technical revolution and the emergence of new suppliers and new facilities. Keywords: Food supply, local governments, local government (Barcelona), historical heritage, Museum of the History of Barcelona, Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona.
