Abstract

The city of Tortosa was a fortified town during most of the nineteenth century. As many other Spanish cities, this particular feature had important implications in the realization of an extension out of the fortified place. It also helped to map urban zones with different objectives. In this work, we show the context of Tortosa’s urban cartography from the 1840’s to the final approval of the proposed expansion in 1886.
