Mostly affects the pediatric age but can debut at any time during life. As the symptoms are very variable and can affect other locations different to the digestive tract, many of the celiac patients do not know that they are favoring the appearance of complications in the medium and long term. Once the diagnosis is confi rmed by the specialist, the removal of gluten is currently the only effective healing treatment capable of reducing the morbidity and mortality of the disease, improving the psychological well-being and the quality of life related to health. Quality of life is important in all chronic diseases, but in the case of celiac disease, dietary restrictions on foods containing gluten are diffi cult to accept especially for adolescents. Compliance with the Gluten Free Diet is an essential factor in achieving a quality of life. The dysbiosis or imbalance in the composition of the intestinal microbiota is a factor that can contribute to the appearance of celiac disease. In the prevention of celiac disease, genetics play a fundamental role. Breastfeeding has no precautionary effects and the time of introduction of gluten is controversial, the recommendations of the experts are that it is done between 4 and 12 months of life in a progressive way.KEYWORDS : celiac disease, gluten, intestinal atrophy, quality of life, dysbiosis, prevention Downloads Download data is not yet available.
