Abstract

The Ateneu Igualadí de la Classe Obrera archive becomes a large repository of documents that illustrate part of half of the 19th century and the entire 20th century of an entity, of a city, but also of a country. The types of documents that the archive provides, showing some of them, enables us to bring to light a source of fundamental importance for history, as well as enable and promote research projects. It is currently the oldest up-and-running organisation of those that were born in working-class, factory environments and with the clear idea of the importance of education for the working class. Ateneu Igualadí is a member of the Federation of Ateneus of Catalonia.
