La Societat de Geografia Comercial de Barcelona (1909-1927) Authors José Luis Villanova Abstract The Society of Commercial Geography of Barcelona (1909- 1927). The societies of Commercial Geography appeared first in the 1870 in a context of high competition among European industrial potencies to develop new markets. In Catalonia, the Society of Commercial Geography of Barcelona was created in 1909 from a pre-existing organization. The main goal of this corporation consisted in encouraging the Spanish external trade, and particularly the Catalan. But the important thing is that the Society strived hard to promote education of Geography, and that it organized activities and made studies related to this discipline, in the broad sense of the term.
