Abstract

One of the few major advantages of Madrid, is its proximity to the Sierra de Guadarrama, a natural space very appreciated by locals since Francisco Giner de los Ríos discovered and taught how to enjoy it at the end of the 19th century. However, the urban sprawl is dangerously approaching to the Sierra, as well as to other interesting natural spaces. The old model of growth along the radial roads coming out of Madrid became worn out long ago and a new model of concentric rings was imposed.
