Abstract

The first large-scale survey of Catalonia, done on systematic, comprehensive and uniform basis, was carried out between 1912 and 1932. This article examine the organization of that survey, which was part of the implementation of the Topographic Map
of Spain at 1:50.000, and that in Catalonia was carried-through by the Instituto Geográfico y Estadístico and the Depósito de la Guerra. It analyzes the development of the topographic work, and describes the personnel and equipment used in them. A novelty of the survey conducted in Catalonia was the introduction of terrestrial photogrammetry in mountain areas.
