Abstract

The Inuit, also known as “Eskimos” and meaning “human beings”, are one of the indigenous peoples who still retain many of their ancient traditions. They living in perfect symbiosis with nature have been able to take advantage of the scarce resources that the Arctic offers them and they have become the most advanced hunter society in the world. Analyzing the past of the Inuit will allow us to better understand the present and future of this people, one of the most affected by global warming and environmental pollution that threatens our planet.

Key words: acculturation, Arctic, global warming, Inuit, shamanism, sung duel.
