Chronology and territorial distribution of the arrival of Ukrainian refugees in Catalonia during 2022

Abstract

On February 24 2022 Russia began the invasion of Ukrainian territory, fact that derived in a war among both states. Since its beginning, one of the most remarkable consequences of the current war has been the large number of displaced people, so much inside same Ukraine how, especially, to several European countries in search of protection and security. The research from the weekly data collected by the Institut d’Estadística de Catalunya, which have been the volume and the temporality of the flow of arrival of Ukrainian people refugees to Catalonia and which his guidelines of territorial settlement during the year 2022. The results show how, from the temporary point of view, after the big initial flow during the first weeks, the dribble of refugees has maintained all the period analysed and, from the territorial, like the availability of squares of tourist accommodation has been one of the main explanatory factors of his distribution in the Catalan territory.
