The evaluation of Catalan terminology implantation: where we are and where we could go

Abstract

The evaluation of terminological implantation is part of the process of terminology planning in the Catalan language. This paper discusses briefly the present situation of this process and especially reviews the various implantation studies carried out in the Catalan context, which revolve around two main axes: sociolinguistics and corpus linguistics. Similarities and differences, successes and shortcomings are shown, in order to determine the current state of the art. The situation highlights the need for ongoing evaluation of implantation and, if appropriate, for terminology update. At the end, some future prospects are considered.
