Morphology and prescriptive grammar: some issues

Abstract

This paper examines the degree of knowledge of the prescriptive grammar relating to several aspects of lexical morphology and inflectional morphology. After referring to basic literature, both the responses to a questionnaire addressed to university students and those arising from the surveys carried out under the project Corpus oral dialectal are described. The analysis of the results raises a number of controversial issues associated with prescriptive grammar and Catalan dialects.
