Building the future of the Catalan language. A comprehensive approach Authors Isidor Marí Institut d’Estudis Catalans Keywords: Catalan language, linguistic diversity, endangered language, interpersonal linguistic behavior, institutional language policy. Abstract Given the resurgence of the debate on the future of Catalan as an endangered language, this paper analyzes and weighs the reasons that justify this concern and argues that the interpersonal use of the language does not have, in itself, the capacity to modify the adverse trends. It is necessary to influence the policies of international, state and sub-state institutions and to change the linguistic functioning of organizations of all kinds. In conclusion, a broad combination of efforts is proposed to reverse the current decline. Downloads Download data is not yet available.
