About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Treballs de Sociolingüística Catalana has been the yearbook of the Societat Catalana de Sociolingüística (formerly Grup Català de Sociolingüística), an affiliate society of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, since 1977. In accordance with the Society's statutory objectives, Treballs de Sociolingüística Catalana stimulates and mirrors research in sociolinguistics, understood in the broad and integrative sense that has characterized it in the Catalan-speaking countries. The journal welcomes unpublished articles in the fields of language sociology, language anthropology, variationism, social psychology of language, language policy and planning, and language legislation and rights, etc., especially those referring to our linguistic area and to the processes of linguistic normalization/standardization, preferably in Catalan. The targets of the journal are specialists in sociolinguistics, inside and outside the university community, as well as citizens interested in seeking in depth knowledge of the sociolinguistic situation in our countries. The journal Treballs de Sociolingüística Catalana has attained an impact index of 10 (ICDS) on a scale from 0 to 11 in the Information Matrix for the Analysis of Journals (MIAR) and is indexed in different databases, including Emerging Sources Citation Index (WoS)Linguistic Bibliography and it enjoys the top rating level in the CARHUS system, which is used to classify scientific journals in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities.

From its foundation (1976) and until issue 14/15 (2000) the magazine was directed by Francesc Vallverdú and published by Editorial Tres i Quatre. Issue 16 (2002) was directed by Francesc Vallverdú and Emili Boix, while since Issue 17 the director has been Prof. Boix. Issue 14-15 (2000) was devoted to "Sociolinguistic aspects of extra-European immigration to the Catalan Countries", Issue 16 (2002) to "Language and society in the País Valencià", Issue 17 (2003) to "Oral use of Catalan.
