Abstract

During the 2006-2010 period, especially from the economic crisis outbreak, there has been a decrease in the advertising income and the economic activity of the Catalan audiovisual sector, specifically in conventional media. Main changes in radio broadcast include the concession of 83 new frequencies to private operators and a significant increase of the audience. In the television field, there has been a technological and business convergence within the framework of the transition towards the DTT, as well as an important increase in the number of channels available. The time spent on consuming television has also increased. The Audiovisual Communication Act, as well as digitalization and convergence processes, seem to be one of the basic crux of the sector's future transformation.
