Abstract

The present issue of Treballs de Comunicació features the first of a series of articles analyzing public television in the State of Spain. The Spanish Parliaments decision to do away with the mixed financing of Spanish Radio and Television (RTVE) marks the beginning of a new and unpredictable era for the medium and raises questions as to the future financing of the other public television channels in the State of Spain. The present article traces the origins of the new law and outlines the potential dangers that threaten public television both in Catalonia and the rest of the State of Spain.
