Abstract

The present economic crisis has led to more job reduction in communication than in the rest of the economy. The consequence has been weaker writing since the more costly personnel, those with more experience and training, are usually the ones to leave. This human decapitalization of the media sector has affected both content and independence. These factors have coincided with a technology crisis in which print newspapers are on the decline and lower-quality digital newspapers are on the rise. Such a scenario presents an unclear future for the journalist who seeks to maintain quality and credibility.
