Abstract

A lack of research hampers the creation of new formats within audiovisual institutions. Some innovative experiences have arisen from the convergence between institutions of different nature that by coming together generate cutting edge, experimental proposals. We focus on the “exhibited film” – resulting from the confluence of the museum and film sectors – which has created new international benchmarks, such as the filmed correspondences between filmmakers. The idea of involving citizens in programmes – making them active contributors and not simple consumers – has also played with overlapping home videos from the Internet and conventional television, especially in the field of electoral debates. Moreover, the importance of amateur footage taken during the Arab uprisings proves the credibility of this precarious image form versus that of professional footage. Finally we analyse the experiences gained from overlapping fiction created for the Internet, cinema and television, which is opening up new possibilities in production methods. To conclude, a strategy that involves movement and hybridisation is of great value in the renewal of formats based on creativity and research.
