Abstract

Artistic and cultural competence. Our starting point is the conviction, based on evidence, that artistic and cultural competence is fundamental to the preparation of pupils. This kind of skill cannot be guar- anteed by educators that have not trained in the following skills: multiculturalism, emotion, sensitivity, critique, research, communication, creation, didactics and inclusion (from art, through art, for art). We decided to open our discourse between reality and desire, summarising in a few pages not what it is now, but what it could be if we renounce the disaggregation and hierarchical prioritisation of knowledge and if we decide to implement a new educational paradigm that values skills that transcend a single discipline. Artistic and cultural competence is necessarily connected to other key skills: logic/mathematics (spatial representation, at least), communication (to which it pertains, and linked to technology) and, obviously, to the skills of personal and citizenship values, and to cultural and social values. We could materialise these desires if we met some basic and relatively easy conditions that we underscore.
