L'Any Internacional de les Llengües 2008: per la diversitat lingüística i el multilingüisme

Abstract

Apropos the declaration of the International Year of the Languages 2008 by the UNO, the author briefly presents the motivation and meaning of this initiative. Also, a series of UNOs and the EUs political measures, research programs, actions oriented to sensitize governments and public opinion to language diversity and multilingualism are reviewed. Moreover, an analysis of the changes in the state-nations discours on language in the context of a global world is advanced. Finally, the author deals with the issue of documenting endangered languages.
