Abstract Children’s education plays a vital role in our society. Teachers are responsible for providing suitable pedagogical assistance to children during a significant part of their childhood. The aim of this research is to analyse and compare the different curricula of the music major of the bachelor’s degree in Primary Education Teaching of all the Catalan universities. Currently, the Primary Education Teaching bachelor’s degree is a study programme in which teachers receiving their initial training are conveyed the contents and necessary skills to exercise their function. Data collection has been carried out exclusively through university websites and the results have been classified in three blocks: general characteristics of the speciality, previous requirements, and courses offered. The results have been compared with different articles and publications of other authors and the most important methodologies of musical education. It is concluded that the hours of specific training for future music teachers are insufficient to acquire all knowledge required to teach music in a primary school.Keywords: Music teachers, primary education, curricula, music major, bachelor’s degree in Primary Education Teaching, training.
