Abstract The aim of this paper is to reflect on the necessary co-operation between schools and socio-educational agents of the territory in order to improve educational attainment and to reduce the dropout rate. The first part of this article describes the conceptual and methodological framework of «accompanying transition» programs, from a biographical and life cycle perspective. The second part presents some reflections from two experiences in which I have been taking part. One is the project «Being young after compulsory secondary school: Accompanying teenagers’ transitions». This program has been operating since 2003 in six public upper secondary schools in Terrassa; it is particularly focused on providing second-chance measures. The other is the FYEB (Facing Youth unEmployment from its very Beginning) project as a preventive program, conducted in four schools in the cities of Badia and Cerdanyola del Vallès, with the aim of generating a change of attitudes in young people, so it is more focused on first opportunities. Lastly, some thoughts on the benefits provided by this kind of programs are presented as concluding remarks.KeywordsAccompanying; transitions; improved academic success; dropping out; networking.
