Abstract

Institutional relations in Catalan/Valencian, which is the official language of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community, have not been easy during the years of constitutional democracy. Spanish democracy is not egalitarian in linguistic matters, in fact, since STC 31/2010 it has become more hostile to linguistic diversity. The characteristics of the governments, the will of social and political forces to divide the linguistic community and the significant differences in the orientation of public policies are at the basis of the difficulty of relations between the governments and institutions of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community in their own, official and common language.
