Abstract

Manuel Folguera i Duran, an engineer, was a leader of early Catalanism, in favour of a movement not specifically structured by political parties. Despite his current lack of recognition, he played an important role in the structuring and establishment of Catalanism in the society of his times. This study aims to uncover the main interpretive keys, from the 1880s to the 1910s, when he had leadership roles in the Lliga de Catalunya and the Unió Catalanista, until the end of his career path, in the Diputació de Barcelona (provincial council) and as President of the Associació Protectora de l’Ensenyança Catalana.
