Abstract Raval of Barcelona has become one of the more analysed neighbourhoods in the City. Throughout this article the three authors collect their work and experiences in Raval with the main objective to debate the methods, techniques and concepts of Urban Geography in the analysis and understanding of contemporary cities. In a more or less chronologicalpresentation they look to a conclusion on a critical evaluation of the different academic publications in order to know this neighbourhood and to analyse their possible consequences on everyday life of the inhabitants.Key words: Raval, Chinatown, Distrito Quinto, Barcelona, laboratory of Urban studies.
