Drawing the enlargement plans, the new industrial city Authors Miquel Corominas Ayala Keywords: enlargement plans, Barcelona, urban cartography. Abstract The industrial city, which involved a large increase in population, would have some new requirements: large land availability to relocate the flood of migration from the countryside to the city and to locate the new productive activities and their distribution. It would also need a novel and well designed road network, which should be spacious and well leveled to ensure the good hygienic conditions in buildings and houses; and good services and transportation networks necessary for the new industrial city. The “Eixamples” are the best representation of all these changes. In order to develop them, new urban planning techniques and especially accurate new urban cartography, with a much more detailed scale, had to be developed. Keywords: enlargement plans, Barcelona, urban cartography.
