Language imposition in education through the denunciation of classmates Authors Antoni-Ignasi Alomar Canyelles Universitat de les Illes Balears Keywords: language teaching, language conflict, linguistic legislation. Abstract This paper studies the use of different variants of denunciation of classmates for using a banned language in schools in different countries. Contexts with or without a language conflict are distinguished within this system. The rule enacted in the Balearic Islands in 1837 for the application of a denunciation system against the use of Catalan is studied; the person politically responsible for this rule is identified and a brief biography is provided on him. Keywords: language teaching, language conflict, linguistic legislation.
