Política i manipulació del llenguatge Authors Xavier Rull Abstract In politics and other related fields (sports, economics, etc.) people often use words or expressions to mask or conceal a subjects true harshness. Sometimes these words are euphemisms, but sometimes they are semantic devices to change our perception of the concepts. This paper analyzes the reasons for this and it discusses the limits of this phenomenon with an overview of linguistics and literature. The paper goes on to reflect on specific cases of Catalan and Spanish politics, and finally it analyzes the reaction of academics and intellectuals with regard to this practice.
