Abstract Based on the advertising campaigns made by Catalonia’s Administration during the period 1999-2009, we analyse the evolution of the Catalan government’s advertising in several fields (social, political, corporate and commercial). This evolution is also studied in institutional advertising sectors, focusing on three main issues: when, where and about what does the Catalan Government advertise. The objective of this research, the results of which are presented in this paper, is to gain an insight into the behaviour of the Catalan government as an advertiser.KEY WORDS:institutional advertising, government, political elections, media.
