Abstract

This paper, based on the authors doctoral thesis, has two main objectives: the first is to identify and classify the principle schools in the history of science journalism; the second is to provide insights into the work of journalist Javier Sampedro, from a communication science point of view. The author concludes that the history of reporting can be broken down into four major schools: the Italian-Renaissance, the French, the German-Prussian, and the Anglo Saxon. Javier Sampedro was most heavily influenced by the Anglo-Saxon tradition and pioneered, in the Iberian Peninsula, a style of science journalism that followed the best of that tradition.
