The press in the province of Lleida (1898-1939): temporal dynamism, models of periodicity and territorial implantation

Abstract

The analysis of the press in the province of Lleida between 1898 and 1939, both with regard to the type involved (political, satirical, religious, sports, etc.) and its periodicity (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.) becomes an essential tool for understanding the phenomenon of the press as a decisive factor in the configuration and consolidation of the society and culture of mass communication in Catalonia. In this respect, the analysis is based and focused on interpreting the temporal dynamics of the press, on distinguishing the different models of frequencies used and the characteristics and role of each in the various regions or areas, and on studying the extent and effectiveness of the regional presence of the press in terms of territory, populations, societies, resources, political and social circumstances, etc. In short, all these features instrumentalize and characterize it as modern mass media press in key years for its
dynamism, consolidation and development.
