Abstract

Technology has been a mandatory subject in secondary education in Catalonia since 1990. However, its trajectory has been marked by constant legislative changes and a lack of curricular tradition. This article analyzes the difficulties in defining the terms, content, and teaching methods associated with the subject, as well as the challenges related to its prestige both inside and outside the academic field. A comparison with other countries is also provided, highlighting the importance of technological education in today’s society. Lastly, the article argues for the need to strengthen the teaching of technology as a way to address social inequalities and promote vocations, innovation, and informed initiative among students.
