Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The content of the article is original: it has not been previously published or published and has only been sent to this journal for evaluation and, where appropriate, publication.
  • The document is based on the journal offcial templates:

    The document format is Microsoft Word, RTF or Libre Office.
  • I have not exceed the maximum lenght allowed:

    - Research articles: maximum lenght of 8,000 words and minimum of 4,500.

    - Experience articles: lenght between 4,000 and 5,000 words as maximum.

  • The file with the text of the article does not contain any element that can identify the authorship of the work, ensuring double-blind review.
  • I have followed the APA style for citing and listing the references.
  • URLs for references have been provided whenever possible.
  • The author must send two files (in Word or RTF format):

    A first file with the authors name, email, affiliations and ORCID.
    A second file with the complete article, without any reference to authorship so that it can be submitted to the journal's own review system and in the format indicated.

Author Guidelines

  1. Profile of the Catalan Journal of Pedagogy

The Revista Catalana de Pedagogia (RCP) is a biannual publication (May and November) of the Catalan Society of Pedagogy, a subsidiary of the Institute of Catalan Studies. Published in ISSN 2013-9594 in electronic edition.

Since 2015, it has adopted the open-source Open Journal digital publishing System (OJS). The electronic version of the journal is available at https://revistes.iec.cat/index.php/RCP/index

  1. Scope and policy of the journal

The main objectives of the Revista Catalana de Pedagogia are to become a quality platform for the dissemination of research and educational and training experiences and to promote debate and educational reflection by professionals and/or researchers. It focuses on any aspect of the different perspectives of pedagogical knowledge. It is aimed at all those people, education professionals in any field and/or researchers interested in the current state of educational reflection, practice and research.

  1. Sections of the journal

Papers received by the journal will be published in one of the following sections:

  • Research articles
  • Experience articles
  1. Submission system and presentation of manuscripts

The editorial process of submissions is carried out online through the Open Journal System (OJS) platform on the corresponding page of the journal within the portal of the Hemeroteca Científica Catalana (HCC).

The author must register as an author in order to submit the article online and consult the status of the submissions in progress. Once registered, the author must make a series of statements about the originality of the material, the authorship and the copyright assignment.

The length of the papers depends on the section of the journal for which the article is sent:

  • Papers submitted in the "research articles" section must have a maximum length of 8,000 words and a minimum length of 4,500.
  • Papers submitted in the "articles of experience" section must be between 4,000 and 5,000 words long.

Papers must follow the following formal characteristics: they must be written in Catalan or English. The general text should be in 12-point calibre font with single line spacing and a 6-point front and back paragraph break. The document's margins should be 2.5 cm above and below and 3 cm left and right.

The journal accepts manuscripts in Catalan and English.

Following the Universitat de Barcelona style guide to write articles is recommended.

  1. Structure of the manuscript

For a better elaboration of these instructions, see the document "USING THE TEMPLATES" on how to elaborate the manuscript.

The manuscript must follow this structure and characteristics:

  • Title. If necessary, a maximum of 40-character subtitle with spaces included can be added. If it is in Catalan, it must be translated into English.
  • Name and surname (or surnames) of each author.
  • Full name of the institutional affiliation, city and country of each author. Next to the author's name, there should be a call, as a superscript, that refers to a note where the affiliation is.
  • Full name and mailing address of the correspondence author, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address.
  • Summary. It should be between 150 and 200 words. If it is in Catalan, it must be translated into English.
  • Keywords. You may choose between three and six words or terms. Where possible, take these from the European Education Thesaurus. Write the keywords in Catalan and English, using lower case, and separate each word or term from the previous item by a comma (,).
  • If they are in Catalan, they must be translated into English.
  • RESEARCH ARTICLES: The body of work. Original research papers must comply with the following sections: introduction, material and methods, results, conclusions and discussion, acknowledgements, notes and references.

  3. Results.
  4. Conclusions and discussion.
  5. Acknowledgements and funding.
  6. Notes at the end of the article. There should be no footnotes.

  • EXPERIENCE ARTICLES: The body of work. Original experience articles must conform to the following sections: introduction, context of the proposal, proposal for intervention, conclusions and discussion, acknowledgements, references and notes.
  1. Introduction: theoretical framework and state of the art and objectives of the experience
  2. Needs analysis (if applicable)
  3. Context of the intervention proposal or innovative experience
  4. Proposal of the intervention or experience (synthesis of contents, activities, methodology, evaluation)
  5. Results of the application of the proposal or experience (if applicable)
  6. Conclusions and discussion
  7. Notes at the end of the article. There should be no footnotes.
  8. Bibliographic references
  9. Appendices (if applicable)

  1. Submission rules

Once registered on the OJS platform, authors must complete the checks listed at this point and complete the boxes in the "Submission Checklist" section. This confirms that the manuscript meets the requirements of the submission.

The authors, before submitting the manuscript, have verified that:

  • The article's content is original: it has not been previously disseminated or published and has only been sent to this journal for evaluation and, where appropriate, publication.
  • Each person listed as the author has participated in a relevant way in the design and development of the article and assumes responsibility for the contents.
  • Files are in Word or RTF format.
  • The file with the text of the article does not contain the name or surnames of the author.

 The author must submit two files (in Word or RTF format):

  • A first file with the names of the authors and affiliations.
  • A second file with the full article, without any reference to authorship, so that it can be submitted to the journal’s own review system and in the format indicated.

VERY IMPORTANT:

Before submitting, ensure both files are tagged correctly: doc or rtf. The name of the two files must be the first three words of the article's title.

  1. Manuscript acceptance process

The journal adheres to international standards and codes of ethics established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (Code of Conduct and Best Practices Guidelines for Journals Editors, COPE) https://publicationethics.org/files/Code_of_conduct_for_journal_editors_Mar11.pdf

The journal's editorial team reserves the right to accept or reject articles based on external reports.

The criteria on which the decision of the Editorial Team of the journal to accept or not the manuscripts is based are the following:

  • originality
  • novelty
  • relevance
  • methodological quality
  • presentation (organization, logical coherence and narrative ease).

The Editorial Team will evaluate the manuscript for publication after the following checks:

  • the adequacy of the thematic field and the interest of the article in accordance with the editorial criteria of the journal
  • compliance with the formal submission requirements required by the journal.

All manuscripts that meet these requirements will be subject to the double-blind review system by at least two external specialists and experts in the article's subject. If the manuscript doesn't meet them, it will be returned to their authors to resubmit it and, posteriorly, be subject to the blind review system to be finally accepted or not.

Any reviewer comments will be made known to the Editorial Team and the authorship if the reviewers deem it appropriate.

The Editorial Team of the journal will communicate to the authorship the resolution of the reviewers, which may be:

  • acceptance of the work to be published
  • dismissal of work
  • proposal for modification and improvement, with specific indications, so that it can be revised and, if necessary, published.

In the event of receiving dissenting opinions, the Editorial Team will exercise the right to decide whether to publish, revise in depth or withdraw the text after hearing a third external opinion.

  1. Ethical responsibilities

It is the responsibility and duty of the Editorial Team to remember the following questions:

  1. Submissions must be original. Papers previously published or in the process of being published in other journals will not be accepted. Compliance with this rule is the responsibility of the author.
  2. The author must declare that they are free from any personal or commercial association that may involve a conflict of interest related to the article submitted, as well as that they have respected the principles of originality and the ethical principles of the research.
  3. The journal has established specific procedures for detecting and reporting plagiarism in the originals received when some indications so advise.
  4. The manuscript contains nothing abusive, defamatory, defamatory, obscene, fraudulent or illegal.
  1. Criteria for the preparation of submissions

Authors must verify that they meet the following conditions as part of the submission process. If these instructions are not followed, the submissions may be returned to the authors.

  • The content of the article is original: it has not been previously published or published and has only been sent to this journal for evaluation and, where appropriate, publication.
  • Each person listed as the author has participated in a relevant way in the design and development of the article assumes responsibility for the contents and agrees with the final version of the manuscript.
  • After the review, if necessary, the authors agree to incorporate suggestions for changes in the content of the work that will be sent to them by the Editorial Team.
  • The files are in Word format for PC or RTF format.
  • The file with the text of the article does not contain any element that can identify the authorship of the work, ensuring double-blind review: the name and surname of the author do not appear, Author/s and year must replace references to pieces by the same author, acknowledgements and funding are not listed, and personal information has been removed from the file properties in Word.
  • All sheets are numbered correlatively at the bottom right.

Privacy Statement

Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC) complies with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union (Regulation 2016/679 of 27 April 2016). In accordance with this regulation, we state that, with the acceptance of the publication rules, authors authorise that their personal data (forenames and surnames, contact data and affiliation data) may be published in the respective volume of the journal Revista Catalana de Pedagogia.

These data will be incorporated to a processing controlled by IEC for the purpose of managing this publication. The authors’ data will be used solely for managing the publication of the journal Revista Catalana de Pedagogia and they will not be transferred to third parties nor will transfers be made to third countries or to international organisations. Once Revista Catalana de Pedagogia has been published, these data will be stored as part of the historical record of authors. Authors may exercise the rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and portability by addressing themselves in writing to Institut d’Estudis Catalans (Carrer del Carme, 47, 08001 Barcelona, Spain) or by sending an e-mail to the address dades.personals@iec.cat, in which the publication in question should be specified.
