Abstract

The aim of this contribution is to examine Slavic elements in the Venetian dialect by presenting the twenty-one items that have so far been identified as Slavisms in the unfinished version of the Vocabolario storico-etimologico del Veneziano (VEV). In order, we will propose a taxonomy to situate Slavic borrowings in Venetian, we will indicate the vesti-ges of Slavic elements in the anthropo-toponymy of the city of Venice and, after outli-ning the structure of the VEV, we will list the lemmas: bardaco, boba, brate, britola, busdògan, cafetàn, chìmini, cisma, duliman, fisseta, gubana, jabàti, martolosso, muchi, necio, palosso, parpagnaco, smoca, straviza, taco-tiboga, zima.
