The archaeological doctrine of the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya, according to Pelegrí Casades i Gramatxes Authors Jordi Vidal Palomino Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Keywords: Scientific hiking, heritage, Renaixença, diffusionism Abstract In this article we publish the lecture read by Pelegrí Casades i Gramatxes at the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya on October 28, 1905. The conference opened the cycle “Conversas sobre arqueologia pera ús dels excursionistas”, which lasted until 1917. There Casades synthesized what he considered to be the most important elements linking archaeology with scientific hiking: the historical and social role of the discipline, its value as a tool for national reconstruction and its ability to contribute to the preservation of the Catalan archaeological heritage.
